What all Free Staters are yearning for, is a better life – not paradise on earth, but just better income (or at least in most cases a job and income), value for money municipal services and minimum fear of crime.
What has to happen for this to be realized for us?
The answer lies in good governance and leadership on provincial and municipal level, a vibant SME sector creating jobs and economic growth and a reliable police and justice system. This would be the bare essentials.
However, what do we have currently in reality in the Free State:
Lack of leadership – the premier is immersed in allegations of corruption, while municipal service delivery is just about non-existent
The backlog in provincial infrastructure maintenance is almost irreversible.
Elderly, law-abiding citizens get murdered in cold blood in the safety of their homes.
An ugly shortlist, but who can deny the reality of it?
To moan and complain only, won't help.
The question is what to do about it?
At the end of 2012, God willing, on whom would we be able to look back and say: “You stood up for what is right and good and did make a difference?
Season's Greetings!
