According to figures released by AC Nielsen Media Research the competition between business publications in South Africa is intense, with the handful B2B competitors in a tough race for ad spent. What has complicated matters lately, is the new regulation by the JSE that registered companies are not obliged anymore to publish their annual financial statements in a public hard copy publication. For some of the renowned business publications - magazines as well as newspapers - this means a loss of up to 25% in annual advertising income. It is thus clear that a new ball game is on.
Where would The Business Bulletin feature comparatively speaking ? Very small, but big enough to be noted. The future of the B2B publication industry ? Perhaps the key lies in the phrase “market niche”.
