A member of the Executive Committee of the Dihlabeng Municipal Council and Vice-chairperson of the Highlands Business Forum, Dr. Clem Harrington, pointed out to the Free State Business Bulletin that several new developments recently in Bethlehem, with more in the pipeline, do reflect the vibrancy of the town. Amongst these developments are:
A new business centre is being built on the corner of Riemland and Muller Street, at the Reitz road entrance opposite the Mehopoleka Business Centre. Mr Price Home and Mr Price will be anchor tenants and are expected to open later this month.
On the eastern side of the Riemland road, CTM is building impressive new premises.
Vaal Motors of Gauteng recently took over Ferreria Broers, the Mercedes dealers in Bethlehem. Ferreria Broers was the oldest Mercedes dealership in South Africa and the new investment from outside indicates business confidence in Bethlehem. New Vaal Motors furthermore indicated that they intend moving to a newly developed premises of their own.
Medi Clinic was recently upgraded for R3,5 million, confirming its position as the foremost hospital in the region.
Another investor from outside Bethlehem, the Hallmark group, has taken over Standard Toyota in Muller Street, while intending further to open up a Renault agency.
The Loch Athlone Resort is in a process of being redeveloped into a marine estate with some 70 full title units and an array of sports and social facilities - project cost R60 million.
The Dihlabeng Local Council is currently considering two applications for business centres to be erected on the Riemland road, one of which should probably eventually house a Game store. Estimated project cost per development is R60 million.
The Local Council is at present building a pedestrian bridge across Riemland Road, to link Bohlokong and Bakenpark. Project cost R4,5 million.
The Council is furthermore currently constructing 800 RDP houses, due for completion still this month, while further infrastructural development is being done at a total cost of more than R38 million.
According to Harrington this shows that Bethlehem is one of the best investment destinations not only in the Free State, but also in SA. Harrington can be contacted at 082 455 8521/email harringtons@dorea.co.za.
