CUT : Evaluation
The Free State Business Bulletin is privileged to carry the extensive feature in this edition of the impact of the Central University of Technology (CUT) on practical life in the surrounding region, especially as it pertains to the workplace and entrepreneurship.
It is clear from the feature that the CUT is one of the biggest roleplayers in Free State socio-economic life – exactly to what extent and height, is to be judged by our readers.
Be what that may, to us at the Free State Business Bulletin two characteristics about the CUT stand out :
Firstly, the highly practical orientation of the various Faculties and Schools at the University – calculating almost everything they do in terms of how it translates to practical results in real life.
Secondly, the high quality of human resources in terms of the lecturing staff at the CUT – highly professional in their operations and succeeding in making the CUT a first-world supplier comparable with the best in the world.
The Free State should indeed be privileged to have such an agent of development in its midst.
Plaasmoorde
So, wat is volgende?
Free State at Indaba
From scanty media reports it would seem that the Free State was somehow represented at the recent annual international Tourism Indaba in Durban. But who exactly was there from the Free State and what has been achieved?
It is our observation that the general public in the province and the tourism sector in the main does not know. Those in the know or supposed to be in the know – the Free State Tourism Authority, the FS Dept. of Tourism and the District Municipalities – do not tell us. No media releases or information sessions.
Meanwhile it is reported that the Free State's share in international tourism arrivals in SA dropped the past few years from 3% to 0,8%.
