Nine SA cities founded support network : South Africa's nine largest cities have formed a network to share their information and find innovative solutions in the face of demographic changes, growing urban poverty and increasingly fierce global competition. The network was launched in Johannesburg in November 2002 to coincide with UN World Habitat Day. The nine cities that are founder members of the network are Buffalo City (East London), City of Cape Town, City of Johannesburg, City of Tshwane (Pretoria), Ekurhuleni Metropole (East Rand), eThekwini Municipality (Durban), Mangaung Municipality (Bloemfontein), Msunduzi Municipality (Maritzburg) and the Nelson Mandela Metropole (Port Elizabeth).

New Witwatersrand gold find : The much exploited Witwatersrand gold reef has yielded a new find - at Modder East, north of Springs, near Daveyton and traversed by the N12 freeway to Witbank. Modder East, in the East Rand sub-basin within the Witwatersrand Basin, is an amalgamation of the old Modder East Mine and a portion of the old Modder B mining title area, incorporated in 1917. The pioneering company undertaking this gold mining venture is New Kleinfontein Mining Company (NKMC) headed by Messrs. Neal Froneman and Peter Skeat. The idea is to mine at some 60 000 t a month and, at that rate a new Modder East mine would have a 20-year life.

SA-German trade : Bilateral trade between SA and Germany has reached a total of about R77 billion per year, in which South Africa exports into Germany increased by 3,5% to R33 billion, while German exports into South Africa grew by 18,6% to about R44 billion. German exports to South Africa consist mainly of motor vehicles, electrical products, other machinery and pharmaceutical products, while exports from South Africa to Germany consist of amongst others of motor vehicles and parts, semi-finished products and coal. This ambitious Blue IQ project, which will enable a 34-minute ride between Johannesburg and Pretoria and a 12-minute ride between Johannesburg International Airport and Sandton, is expected to get 20% of private vehicles off the heavily-congested Ben Schoeman freeway between Johannesburg and Pretoria. It is envisaged that government will make its financial contribution during the construction process and that the winning consortium will be responsible for the operational costs. It is being anticipated that it will cost R500 000 a day to run the system, with the income being around R1 million a day.

E-government is coming fast : A newly-released report, Roadmap for E-government in the Developing World, reveals that in every region of the globe from developing to industrialised countries national and local governments are putting critical information online, automating once cumbersome processes and inter-acting electronically with their citizens. Thus countries around the world are embracing the concept of electronic government. In simple terms E-government is being defined as about using technology to facilitate service delivery. Ontwikkelings in Kimberley : Beplande ontwikkelings van onderskeidelik 'n gholflandgoed en 'n tronk in en naby Kimberley is in 'n gevorderde stadium. Die gholflandgoed is 40 km suid van Bloemfontein en 3 km vanaf Modderrivier Stasie en behels 'n gholfbaan, 67 individuele woonerwe, 'n bed-en-ontbyt, natuurpark en ander geriewe.
